22 March saw the signing of an extension to the national agreement regulating the employment relations of renewable term contracts in Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). The meeting, which led to the drafting of a new version of the agreement regulating employment contracts for these professional roles, was attended by Paolo Stern, employment consultant and chairman of Nexumstp – a company that assists more than a ten thousand SMEs across Italy.
The new agreement extends the understanding reached in 2018, which contained specific rules governing pay and employee relations for contract workers. The extension, partly motivated by the ongoing Covid19 emergency which has prevented in-person meetings, will remain in force until 31 March 2022. During this period, in compliance with Article 4 of the signed national framework agreement, any pay increases or new forms of bonus introduced by an individual organisation will be referred to the second level of collective bargaining. At that stage, the organisations will send a notice advising the Joint Committee of the start of the bargaining procedure, followed by notification of the second-level agreements reached (within 30 days of signature) to enable suitable monitoring of each sector.
Paolo Stern, president of Nexumstp, commented: “The clarification and referral to the second level of collective bargaining seems to be very useful for the organisations, also because of the entry into force of the Third Sector Code and any wage adjustments that might follow on the back of that”.
